NIROX

commission work for Mwangi Hutter

Before the opening of the 2018 Nirox Winter Sculpture Fair, I was commissioned to help make a piece with the German/Kenyan artist(s) Mwangi Hutter.

The piece is titled 'Travels of the Rememberers' and consists of seven 2m x 2m x 2.5m cubes. Each structure has been acid etched and painted by Ingrid Mwangi. Within each structure is a different arrangement of hanging hemp and a heap of earth. The piece is accompanied by an audio component produced by Mwangi.

My role in the project was to help construct and realize the concept with the materials and processes available. With over 5000 holes to drill and 308 welds, it was a lesson in patience and persistence.

You can view a video of the final piece here.
